The Suffolk healthcare map

A Suffolk practice can easily work with two or three hospital systems at once. The major hospitals near the towns we serve include:

  • NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in East Patchogue, formerly Brookhaven Memorial and then Long Island Community Hospital
  • South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore (Northwell Health), formerly Southside Hospital
  • Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip (Catholic Health)
  • Mather Hospital (Northwell Health) and St. Charles Hospital (Catholic Health) in Port Jefferson
  • Stony Brook University Hospital in Stony Brook (Stony Brook Medicine)

Every one of those relationships adds portals, logins and ways patient information moves in and out of your office. We keep the computers, network, logins and security around those connections working, and we work with your EHR vendor when something on their side needs attention.

What the 2022 county cyberattack taught small offices

In September 2022, ransomware hit Suffolk County’s own government. Attackers first got in through the County Clerk’s office in December 2021 using the Log4j software flaw and stayed inside for about eight months. County email went down for more than 10,000 workers, and the county’s forensic report said attackers got hold of a folder of passwords to critical systems that was stored unprotected on the network. Newsday later reported recovery costs of more than $25 million.

A five-person office is not a county government, but the lessons carry over:

  • Patch what faces the internet. Firewalls, remote access tools and anything else reachable from outside get updates first.
  • Never keep passwords in a file or folder. Use a password manager and multi-factor sign-in.
  • Keep one problem from spreading. Separate networks so a hacked computer or camera cannot reach everything else.
  • Have a plan before you need it. Know who to call, and keep a backup the attacker cannot reach. Our free playbooks include a first-hour ransomware plan.

How we support Suffolk offices

Most requests are handled remotely, which is usually the fastest fix. Because we are based in Suffolk, with a home base in Wading River and an office in Patchogue, we can get onsite across the county for installs, network problems, office moves and anything else that needs hands on equipment. Plans are priced per user, so a small office pays for the people it has.
