IT Support and HIPAA Help in Nassau County, NY

Tech Team Bravo supports medical practices and small businesses in Nassau County from our base in Suffolk County. Nassau offices get the same help desk, security and HIPAA support as our Suffolk clients, with most issues fixed remotely and onsite visits scheduled when something needs hands on equipment.

Nassau towns we serve

  • Plainview: a hamlet in the Town of Oyster Bay on the Suffolk border, with three office parks and Plainview Hospital (Northwell Health).
  • Mineola: the county seat, home to Nassau County courts and government offices and to NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island.

We also support offices in nearby communities. If you are not sure whether we cover your location, call (855) 488-2832.

Healthcare in Nassau

The two hospitals closest to the towns we serve are NYU Langone Hospital – Long Island in Mineola, formerly Winthrop-University Hospital, and Plainview Hospital, a Northwell Health hospital once known as Central General Hospital. Practices that are affiliated with these systems, or that refer patients to them, exchange a steady flow of referrals, results and records. We secure the systems inside your practice that handle all of that, and we document it for HIPAA.

New York’s SHIELD Act, in plain English

New York has its own data security law, and it covers far more businesses than HIPAA does. The SHIELD Act (General Business Law 899-bb) applies to any business that holds computerized private information of New York residents, such as Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, account numbers with access codes, or usernames with passwords. Here is what it asks for:

  • Administrative safeguards: name someone to coordinate security, identify risks, train staff, and pick vendors who protect data and say so in the contract.
  • Technical safeguards: assess risks in your network and software, detect and respond to attacks, and regularly test that key controls work.
  • Physical safeguards: protect where data is stored and dispose of it properly, including wiping old computers and drives so the data cannot be recovered.

A small business, defined as fewer than 50 employees, under $3 million in annual revenue, or under $5 million in assets, can scale those safeguards to its size. A practice that is subject to and complies with HIPAA is treated as compliant. Either way, the work has to be real. We set it up, and we keep the records that show it.

How we support Nassau offices

Most requests, from locked-out users to email problems, are fixed remotely. For new equipment, network work and office moves, we schedule an onsite visit. Plans are priced per user, so you pay for the people you have.

Common questions

Is Suffolk County too far away to support a Nassau office?

No. Most support is remote, which is usually the fastest fix anyway. For hands-on work such as installs and network changes, we schedule onsite visits.

Does the SHIELD Act apply to my small business?

If you hold computerized private information about New York residents, it applies. Small businesses can scale their safeguards to their size, but they still need reasonable ones in place. This is general information, not legal advice.
